Core Values - Leadership

We are a global fellowship of individuals who are leaders in their fields of endeavor. We believe in the importance of leadership development and in leadership as a quality of our members. As Rotarians, we are leaders in implementing our core values."

Integrity-We are committed to and expect accountability from our leaders and fellow members, both in the results of our efforts and in the processes we use to accomplish our goals. We adhere to high ethical and professional standards in our work and personal relationships. We are fair and respectful in our interactions, and we conscientiously steward the resources entrusted to us.

We believe Rotary unifies all people internationally behind the ideal of service. We encourage diversity of vocations within our membership and in our activities and service work. A club that reflects its business and professional community is a club with a key to its future.

We believe that individual efforts focus on individual needs, but combined efforts serve humanity. The power of combined efforts knows no limitation, multiplies resources, and broadens our lives and perspectives. Fellowship leads to tolerance and transcends racial, national, and other boundaries.

We believe that our service activities and programs bring about greater world understanding and peace. Service is a major element of our mission. Through the plans and actions of individual clubs, we create a culture of service throughout our organization that provides unparalleled satisfaction for those who serve.

"Rotary’s core values represent the guiding principles of the organization’s culture, including what guides members’ priorities and actions within the organization. Values are an increasingly important component in strategic planning because they drive the intent and direction of the organization’s leadership."

"In 1953, the RI Board of Directors authorized the production of a film featuring several Hollywood heavyweights to celebrate Rotary’s golden anniversary. The 1955 movie titled The Great Adventure featured film actor Edward Arnold ( Annie Get Your Gun, Diamond Jim ) and television star Jim Backus ( I Married Joan ), now widely recognized for his role as Thurston Howell III on Gilligan’s Island . A short clip from the film is on the Rotary website under the History tab.  Take a look, you'll likely enjoy it."

"The 2011 Rotary International Convention will be held in New Orleans Saturday, May 21 through Wednesday May 25.  Lodi Rotary sends our President Elect and spouse.  Of course, any Rotarian may also attend.  Please let Bob Slayback know if you might be interested in traveling along next Spring.  Here's just some of the exciting events: "Sounds of the South Concert", "Fun, Food, Fellowship and Fins", "Host Hospitality", and "French Quarter Dining".

"The Rotary International Foundation recognizes cumulative contributions of $1,000 with a Paul Harris Fellowship.   Many Lodi Rotarians have achieved this distinction.  We maintain a banner with the names of our Paul Harris fellows, you'll see it at our club meetings.  Rotary trivia fact:  Paul Harris, an attorney, founded the first Rotary Club in Chicago in 1905."

"Rotarians can become Paul Harris Fellows by contributing $1,000 to the foundation.  In our club, many of our members have surpassed this giving milestone and have a place on our foundation banner.  Contributions over time count up.  Rotarians that contribute $100/yr to the foundation automatically become Sustaining Members and receive recognition when their cumulative contributions reach $1,000."

"Rotary opened membership to women in 1989.  Today with over 188,000 women Rotarians our clubs have benefited from the additional diversity, enthusiasm and leadership women have brought to our organization.  Many of our best leaders have been our women Presidents."

"Bill Gates announced a $255 Million grant to the Polio Plus effort on January 21, 2009.  The video of his presentation is on the foundation Website, just search "Gates".  The Rotary hat he worn that day sold on eBay for $17,600.  The 2009 grant is in addition to a prior $100 Million given by the Gates Foundation to augment our efforts.  Bill and Melissa Gates are excited about helping eradicate Polio from our world."
